Entitled Homage, this exhibition features a new series of necklaces inspired by outstanding Canadian women, both historic and contemporary. Spanning various fields, from music and the arts to science and sports, some of the individuals include Karen Kain, Anne Murray, Julie Payette, Sonja Bata, Martha Billes, Laura Secord and Mary Pickford. Accompanying the pieces are portrait illustrations created by the exhibition curator Susan Benson, RCA, as well as a short biography of each woman.
Canada has been blessed with many outstanding women. The more in-depth
my research, the more I came to realize how much we are indebted to them for shaping our nation. This exhibition celebrates but a few and is a small glimpse,
a précis, of what could be.
I have learned so much in doing this exhibition. I trust that it will help increase awareness and appreciation of just how important the role of women has been
to Canada.
Special thanks to the Ontario Arts Council and the
City
of Barrie for their generous assistance for this exhibition.
